minimum light for breeding tank

Hi,
I'm setting up a breeding tank and I was wondering if apistogramma's care about the amount of light they get. For shelter and hiding places I wanted to put mainly leaves and caves, I might put in one plant just for breaking the view but I don't care too much if I need to exchange the plant every once in a while.

Thank you.

In my opinion, ambient room light is adequate, so long as there is enough light for the fish to forage and see each other. If you are using live plants in the tank, let their requirements be the deciding factor.

Thank you for your fast reply. The tank will be in my living room, which means there's light during the day and most of the evenings too. If I find it too dark I can put up a small light, but it's good to know that I don't need to have another 15 watt light on for ten hours a day.

One thing I have noticed about lights and breeding tanks is that if you leave a "night light" on, which in my case are the room lights, 24 hours a day, the parents seem less apt to eating fry than if they are given a pitch black night.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
