Just another commercial name. They are probably produced in the Netherlands, or at least the original strain was. It really means no more than "German Blue Ram" (which are mostly produced commercially in Asia). GBR look nothing like the original GBR of the 70s/80s.

Joking aside, I've not seen the name before. I'm not sure what the difference in spp would be

Folks . . . I agree with Mike Wise except I predate him by probably quite a few years. I will always remember the first of the wild rams I saw in . . . ahhhhh . . . maybe 1966-67 . . . somewhere in those times . . . they were simply gorgeous . . . I always look for wild rams FIRST!!!

I'm biting the bullet and ordering wild rams. But I'm in a terrible dilemma. I currently have 2m4f Wild Apistogramma agazassizi from Peru. A gorgeous pair of A. macmasteri. And another exceptional pair of A. baenschi. The problem is I only have three tanks, and I have to meet a minimum amount to get the wild rams. So I was going to add a couple pairs of Pelvicachromis since I have never kept that genus. But that means two Apistogramma species have to go.

The tank sizes are one 72x18x21 and two 48x12x20 (LxWxH in inches). I can't figure out a way to cram wild rams, pelvicachromis taeniatus, and my 3 Apisto species in the three tanks currently available. Adding more tanks is not an option, I just recently scaled down.

Territory wise, how many wild rams could make due in the 72" tank? I suppose I could try to meet the minimum order with the rams alone, but that would be several rams!

Sounds like Group Order time ... I'll bet some other local fish-heads can help fill your minimum.
If you "have to" order a lot of fish, use the sorority/fraternity approach: keep separate tanks for males and females until you have space to set up breeding pairs. Less aggression (usually) if there's no pairs trying to defend spawning sites.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
