Male agassizi digging

Hi, is it normal for the male to be digging a pit under a cave? If so is that a sign that my pair are preparing to breed?

It's not unusual, but in breeding it is usually the female who digs a breeding cave. Maybe your male just wants somewhere to hide?

True it does seem like he likes some sort of hiding spot maybe I should put some more plants in so the male doesn't dominate the cave and then the female might start making her nest?

Add more caves (and/or large leaves to hide under).
