I successfully bred many apistos in the past, but I have not bred any in a few years. I have some Viejita that have been breeding well ,but I am having trouble with the fry. I got the first batch to about 1/4 of an inch and they started dying. The subsequent batches did not make it as far.
I usually pull the eggs rather than parent raise if this makes a difference in your diagnosis.
They seem to be overeating the baby brine shrimp.
How do I feed them enough without overfeeding?
Would microworms be safer?

Thanks, but I already red that post and I don't think it gives me a solution. The fry always seem to have very full bellies. They receive daily water changes, and from my experience in the past experience viejita do not require very soft water. I could just try to cut back on the BS but I am afraid they won't get enough.

Cut back on feeding to the point where they "usually have fairly full bellies" instead of "always have very full bellies".
You want all the food to be eaten within 10-15 minutes or so after each feeding so it doesn't rot and grow bacteria.
