Staeck & Schindler just published a scientific decsription on the Laetacara from the upper reaches of the Rio Negro and Río Orinoco. They named the species L. fulvipinnis (fulvi = Latin for dark yellow or orange, + pinnis = Latin for fin). Yes this is our old friend L sp. Orangeflossen/Orange-fin.

Reference: Staeck, W. & Schindler, I. (2007) Description of Laetacara fulvipinnis sp. n. (Teleostei: Perciformes: Cichlidae) from the upper drainages of the rio Orinoco and rio Negro in Venezuela. Vertebrate Zoology 57(1): 63-71.

For an online copy of this paper see:Vertebrate Zoology, 1286: 57 (1): 63-71.
