Hi folks,
Am reading past threads for info and am learning fast.....Great site!
I purchased 1 dz of these fish (imported not tank bred??) and a pair have already spawned in their 45 gal quarantine tank, feeding live blackworms and flake food. All are about 1" SL.
They were targeted for my 180 display tank but now I would like to keep them in a species type tank and would like to try to have enough fry to survive to keep the population going and varied in age, size, etc, but not enough to overpopulate the tank.
This will be a low-tech planted tank with driftwood, overturned flowerpots, etc. about 120 w (or less) of flourescent tubes about 6-8" above the tank...Most likely run by a wet/dry sump w/overflow type setup.
Questions.
1. What is the min size tank I should go with here? I will go for wider rather than high, whatever the result. I was thinking a 125 at 48x24x24? I want to ensure enough room for territories, eventual growth, and babies........
2. Species of schooling dithers that come from the same area?
3. My water parms are:
PH 7.8
GH 140-160 MG/l CaC03
KH 90-100 mg/L
Temp 78.1 F
Ammonia 0 mg/L
Nitrate 0 mg/l
Nitrite 0 mg/l
Any long term adverse affects from the higher PH and hardness values than their original home waters?
4. Links to articles, main threads, re this species and it's care? I may not have stumbled across the mother load yet
5. I know that corys are not a dwarf cichlids fave fish, but are there any scavengers other than snails and shrimp that can be kept safely?
I forgot how much I liked these fish, had them years ago.....
Thanks very much in advance for your help.
Gerry.
