fishtanker,
I think you need to choose your pet shop more carefully. There are a lot of hybrid and unidentified jewel cichlids out there. If you were to breed them they would be almost impossible to sell as most cichlid fans prefer to know the exact species. Try to find a responsible shop that knows what they are selling - I've been to Chilton Aquatics and they seemed pretty clued up.
In the meantime, try to get the Lamboj book on West African Cichlids - you can order it here http://www.stevensimpsonbooks.com. It will help to ID the jewels that you have and any other West african fish.
Jewel cichlids slightly push the boundary on what is a Dwarf Cichlid - Try Cichlid City or the BCA - you might get a greater response.

ps a few full stops will make it easier to read your post ;)

I have a pair of hemiochramis lifalli, and they aren't as big as the hemiochromis bimaculatus which have 4 of them also, the only problem I have had with the lifalli is when they spawned the 3rd one was promptly murdered, other than that pair is primarily peaceful, beautiful fish. The pair lives with young albino kribs, and a couple of other smaller misc cichlids.
Good luck with them!! Feather

I'm not trying to disparage you or your post, but this was really hard to read. Punctuation and complete sentences are really helpful when people are trying to understand what you are saying :)

I agree completely. We have many members who use English as a second (or third!) language. This makes it almost impossible for many of them to understand what is written. Leave this kind of typing to your cell phone!

Sorry to hear about your situation, fishtanker:frown:

Off course it is about fish:) , but sometimes the form makes it hard to understand the content. Punctuation was invented for a purpose...

Good luck with your fish!

I don't think anyone is trying to be mean. Just consider some puntuation. Spelling isn't really an issue as long as you are understood. Take your post above. It makes a lot more sense if you add a few full stops and capital letters.

Just a stupid example of why punctuation is important.

Charles the first walked and talked five minutes after his head was cut off.

Amazing!!

Charles the first walked and talked. Five minutes after, his head was cut off.

Not nearly as interesting.

Enough english lessons. No offence intended fishtanker, my wife, my brother and my mother are all teachers, I understand how hard it can be. I hope we haven't put you off posting here.

Anyway, I have a lovely Hemichromis myself. I think he is an H. stellifer or H. "muanda" or muanda might be a variant of stellifer. Either way he's a bit of a stunner so I keep him in the living room tank.

They are Hemichromis Bimacalatus, the yellow and the large black spot on them give them this name. In my books anyway, LOL. Iguess I must be behind on this one becuase I didn't see any pics.
Just the ones posted on fishaddicts. From those pics and the way your telling us of the colors. I'd have to say BImacalatus

You need to host your pictures somewhere else like photobucket.com
Then use the image tags to display it here.

Then it should look like this:

Photobucket is about the easyest and most sites you go will let you use it as will. I've only found acouple of sites that you can up load str8 from your pc. The rest pretty much has to be housed on line before you can upload.
