Is this caucatoides coloration unique?

one of my double red fry seems to have unique coloration. Any thoughts on how he or she might develop or if this may truly be unique? Fry were raised by single mom—dad died—in a 30 gallon community tank. Will probably have to take majority to LFS in next 2 or 3 weeks. Plan to hold on to this one.

These have started to show up on some distribution lists recently. I have noticed about 50% of the imported ones in my local shop have this coloration. I cannot confirm whether it stays with them as they age, but it appears as though it does. I find it odd, but I know plenty will find it unique and cool. I don't know much more than that.

I could be wrong, but I am afraid they are sick. I read about similar case on Facebook Apistogramma group post when half of their body becomes black. Something is related to nerves.

Please update me how you go, because I lost one fish as well with similar coloration.

Thank you. He or she seems healthy and is one of about 20 surviving fry. Will continue to monitor to see how the color develops. Parents were double reds that LFS says are Czech sourced.
