Here's a couple pictures of my 2" adult male cacatuoides. Right now, he's in a 29 gal with 5 common guppies and 2 female bristlenose.

I've been thinking of getting a couple of females from the LFS. The problem is that they are 1" at most. would they be too small to put with the larger male? I've never bred apistos before, but would like to give it a try.

You say the females are 1". Is that standard length (body only; not tail fin) or total length (body + tail)? How large is the male? 1" SL females are probably mature and should be fine. 1" TL females could be juviniles of either sex.
