This wild fish came from Peru and I bought it together with a batch of wild A. bita. Which kind of apisto. does it look like? Please advise. Thanks ^.^

It is a female, probably A. cacatuoides or something closely related to it. The pictures are not good enough nor show features that can ID it more closely. Sorry.

I may be wrong, but it looks like a domestic strain of A. cacatuoides to me. It strangely does not show any abdominal stripes, which wild fish almost always do.

i see. By the way, is it possible that it is in fact a female fish of
A. Bitaeniata? A breeder (and also an pet-fish-vendor) in my local
forum insists that he has a fish which looks 100% the same as my fish
which is an A. Bitaeniata...

Yes, it could very well be a 'stocky' female A. bitaeniata. Römer's Atlas shows a similar looking fish. Does it ever show any markings below the lateral band?

Oh, it's so interesting ... yes,. sometimes, it does show some not too sharp line(s) below the lateral band. In fact, when i selected the fish from a tank of wild bita., it looked so close to a beautiful female bita. that i at once caught it... .. . btw, after days of observation, i tend to agree with you that it's a female fish of a kind of apisto in the A. cacatuoides group.... ^.^

If there are 2 or more rows of wavy stripes, it is probably A. cacatuoides.
If there is only 1 indistinct even stripe, it is probably A. bitaeniata.
The stripe(s) is best seen when the fish is frightened.

Thanks for the tips. After a careful observation, i reckon that it's
an A. Cacatuoides as the fish shows rows of dotted lines below
the lateral band in some mood. Thanks again Mike for your help. ^.^
