kretz11,
Looks like a Steindachneri to me. Might be hippolytae, but the caudal spot looks a little more oval than round. Although it is not a sure way to differentiate these 2 fish, caudal spots on the steindachneri are usually oval and on the hippolytae they are usually more round and a little smaller.
You have yourself a nice pair there.

There are two fairly simple ways of distinguishing hippolytae from steindachneri:

1) steindachneri males have a clearly lyreate caudal fin, while hippolytae's is more rounded, and
2) the lateral body blotch on hippolytae touches the base of the dorsal fin, while in steindachneri it is situated well below the dorsal fin, directly on the lateral band.

Another differentiating trait is the dorsal fin: they both are taller and have greater posterior extensions on steindachneri.

Like a photo negative, the lateral spot in kretz's first photo is conspicuous by its absence, but it is clearly situated well below the dorsal fin and right on the lateral band. The tail is also clearly lyreate, and the dorsal fin is as described above. That for sure is a beautiful example of a Steindachner's apisto! :D
