hello,

I have kept two type of wild diplotaenia.
the one has different color form from the other.
it seems its Doppel band, which is Diplotaenia's typical feature in central of body, is little bit tiny.
also it shows different coulor form compare to nomal Diplotaenia's
Where this spices came from tributary of the Amazon river?

They spawned 3month ago. and more than 30 flies are being raised in my aquarium.

I am wondering if this F1 can reproduce F2 with other normal Diplotaenias when they grow up.

Hi M.J and welcome to the apisto forum.

There are 2 different forms/species of A. diplotaenia. The type form is found in the middle and upper Rio Negro of Brazil. Another form/species, A. cf. diplotaenia "Orinoco" occurs in the Rio Atabapo basin in the upper Rio Orinoco of Venezuela. Colors on Apistogramma can vary. They are not especially useful for species identification. The dark/black markings on the body are more useful. The fish that is on the link that you sent is the type A. diplotaenia from Brazil. A. cf. diplotaenia "Orinoco" has a different pattern on the body (see photo #4 at:http://www.mimbon.de/fangreisen/venezuela-2001). The bars off of the double band are very prominent in this photo because the fish in in 'fright dress'. The bars are faint, but still visible on males in normal mode. These forms have been crossed and the offspring show some indications that they are hybrids: less fertile and weaker.
