Hi everyone,

I bought 6 of these guys as wild caught Apistogramma Viejita from a source that I am not familiar with. The origination point was stated to be columbia.

Can anyone verify the id on these guys? These pics are during acclimation in a plastic container.

They look more like the yellow color morph of A. macmasteri (A120) to me. The body seems too deep (high) for the typical wild A. viejita. If it were A. viejita, I would expect to see the upper edge of the dorsal spines to be red and the tail should be more round than squared off. A. viejita males typically have longer dorsal and anal fin extensions, too.

If the picture in the Datz book is representative of A120 I am not sure those are them. They have a lot more red/orange in the fins. I will have to let them get settled and then get some better pictures.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
