This was batch #4 of eggs. Eaten again. I have moved everything out of the tank except the tetras. There are 7 of them and its a heavily planted 38g tank. So I'm just going to enjoy watching my fish and not get all excited if they spawn. Heck, I may even put some cories in there! I mean why not if the eggs are going to be eaten anyway? I must admit the thrill of the apistos is wearing thin with them eating the eggs every single time. I know my water is good, I mean they've spawned 4 times.

ginnie,
Don't give up! I can't tell you how many times I have had pairs that have eaten or been unsuccessful 4 spawns. And I have had hundreds of successful spawns from close to 100 species and species-forms of apistos! If it were undemanding many more people would be spawning them and apistos would be all over the place.
Give us a rundown on your tank and the species that you are working with one more time.

the tank

38g heavily planted, driftwood, aqua soil substrate. They're cacatouides. Water is ph of about 6.4, kh of 3 and gh of 4. No ammonia or nitrites. I moved everyone out of the tank this last time except the tetras and they still ate them. She is still very yellow but there is no one place in the tank that she is protecting. It seems like as soon as they get to the point where they should be wigglers they disappear. I guess next time I could move the tetras too. They are just a pain to catch.

Don't feel bad, I am on my 3rd batch of cacatuoides eggs. I tried keeping the eggs in the main (29gallon) tank but it was always unsuccesful, so I have moved the eggs to a seperate tank in hopes of being able to actually raise the fry.

So keep on trying, I know how exciting and frustrating it is when you first discover the eggs, then realize they are gone.

Are you trying the eggs without a female?

I've wondered about that. Right now my plan is that next time I see eggs she gets the tank all to herself and I'm unplugging the filters just in case my current is to strong. I'll just do small water changes every day.
