Wow, you have tamed a cichlid until you can start patting him on his back/head

Hi awth,
Amazing! I have similar experiences with Malawian Cichlids.
But I didn't know that it is possible to "make friends" with small, wild, aggressive southamerican dwarf cichlid! I absolutely envy you! I have to say it again, Adoketa is my favourite non-apisto!
BTW, do you know about similar exp. with Adoketa in your friends' tanks?

Not that I know of! However, I do have 2 pair of A. Agassizii var. "Gold" and 1pair of wild bitaeniata "tefe" that I trainned up that they do allow me to pat as well! However, they pass away already! I train only 1 pair at a time until they died, I start to train another pair.

Trainning tip: Clip the food with a pair of clips, with tones of patient, hours and days, they will graduately approach the clip for the food. When they get used to the clip, try to put 1 finger, 2 fingers, 3 fingers into the water with food on the clip, they will then get used to your hands too! The whole process will take about 2-3 months, and not all dwarf will allow you to do this and it DOES require TONES and TONES of patient!

Oh I almost forget. Few years ago I've had for about two months (too small aquarium  ) one green labeo (Labeo frenatus) and he's never allowed me to 'catch' him like you awth your Adoketas, but he has... cleaned my hand!

Hi friend :)

Well, when the adoketa grows larger, i am sure you will not play with him/her this way as it can be very painful for an ado's bite :)

It does bite me, but very softly, I do feel a little pain in the beginning, but after I get used to it, it feels more like a gentle kiss from him!
