So much depends on what you want to do with the tank and how it is decorated. If it is a breeding set-up, I would suggest no more than 1 male & 3 females. If it is a community tank, probably 2 pairs. Ideally each female will want a territory at least 12"/30cm in diameter with the cave in the middle. You have to be certain that each female's territory has visible boundaries made from rocks, wood, plants, etc. and a cave in the center of each territory. Without adequate boundaries, you can expect to lose some of your fish to territorial fighting.
