Four years is a good length for apistos. Dr. Römer wrote a paper in which he found two years is typical if the fish are continually under stress from breeding. My oldest apisto was one I had hatch in one of my aquaruiums. It lived to be slightly over 6 years when it died. In the wild most apisto probably don't live more than one season. This is based on the observation that older, fully mature specimens are rarely collected.
