Dollars to donuts, your A. viejita are a domestic strain of A. macmasteri. This species is quite adaptable to water values so long as they are not too extreme. They will even breed in moderately hard (10 dKH) and neutral-to-slightly-alkaline water. Of course, moderately soft, slightly acid water is better. A tank of suitable size & decor, regular water changes, and quality feeding that includes live foods is all that is needed - other than a male and female pair of course.
