Hemichromis cerasogaster?

I picked up 5 of these at a local store, I have them in two seperate tanks they are about an inch long. the pet store was selling them as Neon Jewels, are they a cross breed X?. can anyone shed some light on this.

You found H. cerasogaster in a LFS?! Cool! Where are you at? Captive bred fsh? Randall will probably respond with the specifics. He is the only person I now who has them.

Sure it isn't a Hemichromis sp. Neon, commonly sold as a neon jewel?

AFAIK, this fish is considered a hybrid.

H. cerasogaster does not have a black spot on its flank. They do have a black spot of spots in the dorsal fine. Since you fish does have the flank spot, and not a dorsal spot, I do not think that it is H. cerasogaster. The pictures on your site suggest H. letourneauxi to me. Three lateral line spots (cheek, flank and caudal peduncle), blue face spots, irridescent spots on the body are very linear, non-aggressive coloration is very green.

Hemichromis sp. "Neon"

Hello Sheldon,

Your Hemichromis sp. is not H. cerasogaster but rather H. sp. "Neon." No one really knows what H. sp. "Neon" is, but as far as it is known, this form does not exist in nature. It is either a product of selective captive breeding or a hybrid.
