hey thanks ya all! Its my first pair of WC apisto and absolutely stoked to have fry already. This is my third dabble in apistos, and loving the genus.
My first apisto foray was a couple of years ago with trifasciatas but that was an epic failure. The eggs kept fungusing and the colony eventually died off. Was going to give the entire genus a miss until I saw a tank of steel blues - was love at first sight and came home with a trio. Only later did I discover they were a hybrid - oh well! On the plus side, I still think they look great and they bred pretty easily. Right now, I'm on to the 3rd generation of this fish.
That is a quality Steel-blue male you have. You're lucky to find a female, too. I know the opinion is that it is a hybrid species, but it doesn't really show features typical of hybrid apistos. No one is 100% positive that it's a hybrid. All we do know is that it's a man-made color strain.
