OK... you all jinxed me! I posted last week that my Hanna Combo meter has operated perfectly for four years. Well, now my pH electrode is shot. Gotta get a new electrode, so I will be ordering from Hanna the week after Thanksgiving.
If you need something from Hanna, please let me know. Here are a few of the things that I use and the prices of each. If Hanna has something else you want, tell me the Hanna stock number and I will get you a price. You can wade through the website at www.hannainst.com. Hanna is fast, so if I order next Monday I should have the stuff by the following Friday, and back in the mail to you by the following Monday.
Combo-meter (HI 98129) $144
Spare electrode (HI 73127) $39
pH 4.01 calibration sachets (25) (HI70004P) $21
pH 7.01 calibration sachets (25) (HI 70007P) $21
1413 mS calibration sachets (25) (HI 70031P) $21
storage solution .46L (HI70300L) $12
Just so that we are clear, Hanna's prices are based upon quantity discounts. The prices listed are Hanna's MSRP retail prices. Resellers get discounts based upon the volume (dollar value) ordered. $200 - $1500 orders get a 25% discount, but then I have to pay shipping. When I did this four years ago I basically broke even selling at the MSRP. Can you find it cheaper online somewhere? Sure... but those companies are ordering $3500+ to get the maximum (32%) discount, then selling a little lower than the MSRP... and are probably profiting on the shipping.
I am jumping the gun a bit on this Hanna order because I need the spare electrode. Sometime in the next couple weeks I will be launching my new website www.tedsfishroom.com. It is under construction, but you can see the home page at the moment. I will be offering for sale a limited supply of stuff that I use and can buy bulk or at wholesale prices, and the fish that I or friends breed. I have not worked out the overhead costs yet, but the profits above overhead from this site will all be donated to the Guy Jordan fund, which is the ACA's foundation for supporting cichlid research. Best guess right now is that about 10% of the Hanna prices will go to the fund.
