Guess what I just found!!!

I just found one of my biotoecus opercularis guarding a large clutch of eggs! What makes it really odd is that both of the fish I have are female and the eggs have the nice creamy tan color of viable eggs. I guess they weren't waiting for it to warm up enough for the male to get here.

There is nothing wrong with a little pre party action. At least you know they are of spawning age and ready to go.

It was definitely a surprise and they have the right color to be viable. I really don't know how to feel about the whole thing, one on hand I got my first spawn, but on the other if the eggs are viable I lost a female. Still pretty cool though.

I guess it depends on your perspective. I would be willing to give up the female for a viable spawn of that fish. Keep us posted.

Well I just siphoned out a majority of the eggs that were kicked out and covered with fungus, but she is still aggressively guarding the rest. I would be happy if this was a viable spawn but I would much rather have spawns from 3 females instead of 2.

Eggs are gone and she is still protecting the nest site, but I don't see any wigglers so I'm not sure what happened.
