In a recent import came a mixed bag of wild caught A.agassizi and also a few nice Bitaeniata..The whole tank was 99% male but i managed to pick out one female that was far smaller than the rest and only giving hints of her potential, i also picked up two nice yellow Agassizi males and a large male Bitaeniata..Back home the fish are in a quarantine tank all together, the female is showing good colour but im stumped as to which sp she is?? Is this fish below a female Agassizi or a bitaeniata?? Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys. Mike the fish are a wild import from Peru, ill show a picture of the yellow male. Is this form widespread in Peru or from a certain area?

The pattern on the caudal fin makes it look like it is a red morph of A. agassizii. It is reported from several tributaries of the Amazon in northern Peru.

Female Agassizi or Bitaeniata

Looks a Male to me....not by the body shape, but the length of the pectoral.

Try comparing ur other pseudas and u will notice what i mean.

If you're talking about the first set of photos, then I disagree. Most agassizii-group females have longer ventral fins (I think that's what you meant to write) than those of females in other species-groups.
