I agree with MacZ unless this is larger than a 40 breeder tank and you can house up to 10+ barbs. Although not as "rowdy" as Tiger Barbs, bored (read too few of their own with which to interact) Black Rubys can annoy other fish by bothering them.

It’s a 75g I figured I’d give it a shot. If it doesn’t work out, I can always put them in one of my other 55G.

I think a perfect compliment to a community with Apistogramma showpieces are cardinal tetras. They are simply the most brilliant looking wild caught fish in the world to me. They school well enough and can make any level of lighting suitable for a jaw dropping tank, especially in high enough numbers. They can thrive in pretty much all of the parameters that Apistogramma are kept in and it will keep an Amazonian theme well.
