True. I know of maybe a handful of cases of south american dwarf cichlids breaking the 5 year mark. Most in capitivity make it between 2 and 4 years. We can only guess for the wild, but I wouldn't expect more than 2 years there.

Interestingly there are plenty of smaller species, like cardinal tetras, that reached higher ages. The record I know of for those is 8 years. Just as much of an exception to the norm as a dwarf cichlid reaching 5+ years.
Well my emerald eye rasbora seem to live forever and when i look them up 8 years seems not impossible. Then we could talk about sterbai living 20 or 30 years and my little female nijjensi lived 5+ years and my ipiranga are older then the d. m. and in very good shape given the picture i posted the other day.

i guess it is all relative as most rams esp domestic rams are lucky to see two years. Still i kind of wish they would live longer ....

I bought 6 at the start of the year from Maidenhead and got 3 pairs from them, I had spawns but never saw wrigglers so moved two pairs on as others wanted to try breeding them. Water was 6.5pH

Stunning little fish with some very cool courtship behaviour. The male trying to corner the female whilst almost arching and twitching. Then the head down, near vertical swimming.

Poor 2nd photo but the display colours when courting are awesome

Nice to see quality fish from Maidenhead, not always the case in my opinion.

I think I was lucky as they were a bit tucked out of the way with poor lighting. Not as flashy as some so didn't get sold very quickly allowing me to check on them a few times before buying

Yea i gotta say as young ones they are cute little fishes but until they develop their colouring most people will pass by them.

I have 9 around 1/4 to 1/2 an inch in a 10 and eventually i'll move them to a 180 with some b. wavirini. Want to move them before they get stunted but after they get large enough to fend off two bickering rams (i have two domestic males that can't be satisfied splitting the tank in 1/2 they have to meet in the middle to fight every day).

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
