Hi,

I've been looking for these fish for a while now and have not had any luck. I had a group of them about 2 years ago. Actually got them to spawn but then had to move across the country and lost them. Now I have heard several times that it is impossible to get them because of legislation in Brazil? Is this true?
Thanks
Steve Thornton

not too common , but i occasionally come across them in shops , i've nerver tried them since they are reputed to be very difficult to spawn , and crenicihla regani are generally available look almost indenticle except the females dorsal ocelli is ringed in white with no red , and are much easier to spawn . jeff rapps at www.tangledupincichlids has some now.

as for the brazil thing i'm not too sure but i definetly saw wild notopthalmus at a shop in baltimore not more than a month ago.

Brazil still ships these fish out of the country. Very few are shipped to the US because they are expensive and most US importers are reluctant to buy them. Most go to Europe & Asia.

i have also been looking for this species for quite a while,
but unfortunately it is not available in Hong Kong... By the way,
i am curious to know about its usual retail market price. :)

blue blue,
the last two times i've seen them for sale they were ~16.00 usd per fish before that i saw some @ ~5.00 a fish but they looked pretty rough. at that price i wanted to buy some but waited a week to see if they improved at all , when i went back the clerk told me they all died within days :frown:

Steve,
the store i found them at last month probobly still has some(if they havn't all died) they had about 30 or so and they aren't fast sellers(pikes in general) at this particular shop , most of thier customers are the pirahna , african cichlid ,noen type. you could try to call them and see if they ship .

I must say however the quality of this shop is somewhat suspect . and if you ask over the phone they may not know what your talking about , plus in all likelyhood they are mislabled . i would go check them out for you but i live 2 hours away. next time i'm over there i'll definetly keep you in mind.]

Thanks element (Jason). Wow, all died.... it's very sad...
The price is not high and it will be great if it will be available in Hong Kong. Let me push those importers to get this species to Hong Kong :)

good luck blue blue it is a beautiful, interesting fish . i just happen to like regani since it has a better track record in the aquarium . in my experience i've actually encountered notopthalmus for sale more often in shops than regani , actually i've never seen regani for sale in shops i've always gotten them from the internet.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
