Would a Betta go well(or at all) with gold rams and keyholes? There is also guppies and tetras in the tank. would a betta give something for the rams to chase rather than my really shy keyholes?
I have my top fighter plakat thai ( 5star shorttail bettas) in a 20gal tank(long) along with my L. curviceps and rams and he doesn't really bother them much. The plakat thai fighter is the biggest of bettas that can pretty much be found in LFS and the worst in temperment but as long as there's enough hiding spots for the other fish, the betta shouldn't be a problem at all seeing as he's mainly an upper column fish. just wondering though, what kind of betta was it?
im not sure exactly...just one from my lfs...i dont know how to tell the difference...hes not one of those fancy tails, but has some great finnnage...ill try to get a pic.
I wouldnt advise placing a Betta in a tank with guppies at all, they have colourful tails and are seen as other males to bettas, also Males bettas cannot tolerate currents so well - I would keep this in mind as if they get stressed they will be very prone to disease, once not worth risking with cichlids
Although a female Betta will tolerate it perhaps better, I have a female in a community tank, as they have short tails they can swim alot easy in hte currents, also plakats (short tail bettas male & female should be fine in the tank) Like appst said they are aggressive, B. Imbellis is a good mannered Betta, interesting breed these are
Good point about the tails of guppys being a disadvantage with male Bettas. However, as lone tankmates in a tank with Keyholes and Rams, it probably would work OK to have male Bettas. Those 2 types of cichlids don't really like current either.
wow thanks i didnt know what he was, his tail was different than other bettas at the store and i loved his markings. do you know what those colors combined are called? or is he just a multicolor?thanks!
