Well I got 2 different colored female Apistos. Perhaps they will breed and I will find out what color will be the dominant.

As Mike says, I don't think an actual study has been carried out, but in my experience, when breeding Tripple Reds, you get some Tripple/Double/Red offcasts, and even when breeding Sunbursts you will get Sunburst, Tripple, double and 'single' reds.

So I guess that it is a case of how much of the parents genes are closest to the particular strain? The more 'Sunburst' or 'Orange Flash' in their own make up, the more dominant (in theory) that gene would be? But then strains like this would never be 'pure' enough to breed true, and there will always be Red offcasts.

I hope that made some sense? Struggling to gather my thoughts with the kids around!

G!

Well I read that the sunburst is man made color thus thought it would be harder to get sunburst. I like the color the best.

From what you said sounds like what happens breed dogs with patchwork color. You never know what you get. May get a few with the unique color.

Hi all,
The black chequering in the caudal fin is dominant, so if you breed an "Orange Flash" with a "Double Red" the F1 generation will all have black chequered tails.

Technically, most of these colour forms are man made from Double/Tripple Reds through to Sunburst and Orange Flash.... They are all produced from line breeding, where the breeder will pick the colours closest to what he has in mind, and then breed them, and then pick the offspring that show the best colour closest to his ideal, and with each generation of breeding, the offspring should be another step closer to what the breeder had in mind.

Yet most of these forms will be derived from the 'Red' variety (as I understand it) in the case of Cacatuoides.

G!
