Cockatoo's with a ph of 7.6??

hey everyone I have had my cockatoos for about a month now and I keep loosing females. I kept the p.h. low about 6.5 since thats what they were raised in but I have slowly been raising it with water changes because I hate adjusting ph with additives. Could it be possible that they can't tolerate that high of a ph? I have a 3rd female that has popeye now. I don't know why its affecting the females and not the males either. any help would be great.. thanks

Yes, A. cacatuoides has be found in waters with pH values similar to yours. I can't say why you are losing females. I suggest that you quarantine them separately from the males for at least 2 weeks while slowly raising the pH in the quarantine tank to that of the community tank. This will give them more time to adjust to different water values without the stress of a male continually bothering them.

Popeye appear owing to either poor water quality or diseases such as FishTB...

For the water quality problem, please check the water parameters and you
could improve it by water exchanges.

For FishTB, it is a tough problem... the male fish survives probably it is
NOT under stress and it is strong enough ... the newly introduced female
fish die because of the stress in a new environment and probably together with the problem in the tank.

Fish don't care what the pH is, they only care that it doesn't change rapidly.

When people talk about a "low pH" fish, they are usually refering to a "soft water" fish.
