chemicals in plastic

I was reading on the krib that certain plastic containers can release harmful chemicals when water is stored in them. Is this true? If it is, then are the normaly used plastic containers like rubbermaid containers, five gallon buckets, and the hard, clear, five gallon water jugs safe for storing water? Are there certain containers that should be avoided?

that is a good question. i did a google search for 'plastic water bottles harmful' and got lots of hits, there are many views on this. however, the effects seem to be all maybe's and longterm. so, i won't drink from plastic water bottles, but wouldn't hesitate to store fish water in plastic. besides, aren't your filters all made from plastic?

If the water was never changed, something could eventually build up, but as often as most of us change our fish tank water, I think the plastic chemicals will not build up.
