Can I keep these Apisto pairs in the same tank?

I am thinking about getting some Apisto pairs and I have a couple questions.

Would I be able to keep the following Apisto species all in the same tank (55 gallon 48" long X 12" deep X 21" high)?
Cacatuoides, Fresa, Inka 50, Panduro and Norberti

Are there any aggression issues or crossbreeding issues with the above Apisto's?

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum ND_RC,

Well, if you're planning on keeping pairs of the following species, I think that the tank would be too crowded and there would definitely be issues with aggression. A 55gallon tank could at the most keep two species trios with a ratio of 1m & 2fm of each species and that might still be too crowded depending on which species you were going to keep of the ones you listed. I really think it best if you pick a specie that you really wanted and keep that solely by members of it's own. Crossbreeding is always a problem as long as they are present in the same tank but most likely not because crossbreeding will only result if the respective partners aren't present and the urge to spawn is too great with the absence of the respective male/female. hope this helps a little.

Thank you for the info, Apistt.

I bought 6 pair of apistos. They should be here tomorrow. :D
2 pair of Cacatuoides
2 pair of Panduro
1 pair each of Inka 50 and Norberti

Anyone have any problems with these apistos with any of the following tankmates? Halequin Rasboras, Serpae Tetras, Black Phantom Tetras, Cory catfish, Clown Loaches, Kuhli Loaches, Chineese Algae Eaters, Common Plecos, Bumblebee Pleco and Kissing Gouramis.

The Cacatuoide pairs will be in one of my 55 gallon, the Panduro pairs in my other 55 gallon and the Inka 50 and Norberti pairs will be in a 29 gallon. I will mix in the above tankmates.

ND_RC,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

You have chosen 4 species that are all somewhat related. This does not mean that you will have problems with crossbreeding (John makes a good point about the fact that apistos usually will choose partners from their own species), but it does mean that you are likely to have a higher probability for aggression between these fish. On top of that, you have chosen some of the more aggressive species in general. Keep a close eye on these mixes (especially in your 29) and be ready to act if aggression get beyond the typical displaying and nipping.

Good luck,

Neil
