buying apistos

I have recently been posting questions regarding setting up a 29 gallon apisto tank. One question that I am unsure of is the actual purchasing of apistos. Is a trio or pair of apistos recommended for a tank of this size. I do not want to have on outcast female, and will go with a pair if this is likely to be the case with 3. Also, is it generally recommended to purchase a larger group (how many?) to ensure that a pair/trio is attained? I recently saw some rather small apistos (caca. and borelli) for sale at a lfs, but they were of very small size (<1/2") and am unsure of what to look for in fish of this size to ensure that I purchase a healthy group of fish. If you get any type you should definately do a trio. But if you like the borelli you could do 2m/3f as along as they are introduced together, and provided there is plenty of drift wood or w/e for hiding. IMO you should get the borelli opal they turn an awsome color, and have a great personality. The cacs would be cool also. Both borelli and cacs should be pretty easy to breeed. I have heard stories of two different borelli faimlies living happily in a tank, and if a fry goees stray the other family would pick it up as their own.
