I intoduced a new male to a gallon a little while ago which already contained 2females. 1 with fry and the other good and fat with eggs.

Once there were no more fry, the male started beating up on her pretty bad. I figured it was just the normal courting and would stop in a few days when she became more receptive, but I ended up having to move her. The other female has since spawned, and the male seems quite content with 1 female. he hasn`t nagged her at all.

Do you think there is any chance or reintroducing her or is it possible this male wants only 1 female?

chances are that the tank is best suited for just one female. What size tank were they in again?.. I am willing to bet that if it was in a larger thank, then the male would be far more receptive of the other female. It would be best to not introduce the other female if she is repeatedly picked on and hanging out in the corner or out of site. john

If the pair are happy....don't mess with it. Do they parent raise or is he still eating the fry? If you have 2 tanks set up Dad can visit each female and you will have twice the babies. If he eats eggs or fry it will give one female a chance to parent raise while he is kept busy by the other female.

Good luck with your trio.

Alright, I'll try alternating back and forth and see how that goes. He beat her up pretty bad.

I haven't raised any fry past a few weeks in a loooong time but I'm blaming my water for that. GH and KH are both 12 with a ph in the low 8's. Very few fry hatch and those that do don't have very good appetite. I know they're not being eaten as I've actually seen the females carry around the dead ones when they don't keep up and stay with the others.

The female that was full of eggs when I introduced this new male spawned but I never saw any eggs. I'll wait to see when they spawn again if it's going to be an on going problem.
