Breeding trio of Apistogramma Agassizi “Alenquer”

Hi guys,

I recently acquired a trio of Apistogramma Agassizii “Alenquer” and I want to breed them. I have a 20 gallon setup with 4 caves, a lot of plants, and a lot of hides and cover. No tankmates, and I have 2 extra 20 gallon tanks and a 55 gallon tank to grow out fry and separate any fish. I have sand for substrate and have a sponge filters. What else do I need to begin?

Hard to say without knowing which 20 gallon tank you have: 20High, 20Long, 20Tall? "4 caves, a lot of plants, and a lot of hides and cover" varies with the opinion of the aquarist. A photo of the tank would be helpful. What are you feeding your fish and what are the pH and hardness of the tank's water?

The tank readings were pH 7.4-7.6 GH 4° KH 3°. I feed Xtreme Nice 1.5mm pellets, and frozen bloodworms once a day. The tank is a 20High with a Aquaclear 20, Tidal 35, and large sponge filter cycling on it right now. I was running the tank as a community set up for about 7 months but now I want to breed the apistogramma.
