Breeding Laetacara dorsigera

Is a 40 breeder big enough for a pair of L. dorsigera to breed in without them harming the other fish? Right now, I have in there:

1 Laetacara dorsigera (probably female)
4 Upside-down catfish
7 White cloud mountain minnows
5 Head-and-tail light tetras
3 Honey gouramis
2 SAE's
2 Otos

All fish are adults except for the SAE's, which are 2.5-3''.

Also, how do I tell L. dorsigera males and females apart?

My male dorsigera successfully hunted and killed tetras (greenfire tetras) in a tank with the same footprint (36"x18"x18"). This was when my pair were not breeding, when they were, nothing was safe (otocinclus, small bristlenose catfish, dwarf corydoras hastatus and tetras).
