breeding a. macmasateri

HI

Can anybody give me info regarding the setup and food for breeding the a.macmasteri? I have a 60L (15 US gal) tank with plants, upside down clay pot and bogwood. ph 6,5; dkh 3 and temp 24C. I feed the breeding pair every second day bloodworms and cyclops and on the other days tetra flakes and do 25% water changes every two weeks

I removed the male because he harassed the female

they are not too demanding as far as the water parameters are concerned, your water values look fine. I keep mine in tank about the same size (30x60cm footprint). a bit of chasing and harassing is part of being a pair of cichlids. as far as aggression goes the pair of macmasteri that I have are fairly mellow as far as apistos go and I have never had any injuries. if you are worried, add some floating pipes so that the fish have a place to hide away from the lower part of the tank. once they get down to it they are really good parents as well and dad shares some of the responsibility and guards some of the fry.
below is a picture of the tank they are in (viewed from the narrow end). there is some more space to swim behind the java moss.

I do weekly water changes. they seem to do well on mostly dried foods (high quality flakes and micropellets), I only feed live foods occasionally.
