Hi, new here and new to Apistos.

I have an extra 26g (24") tank, so I fecided to try a DIY backround. It is cycling and almost ready.
for fish

Sand substrate and fake plants. There are caves and hiding spots.

I would like to add Apisto Borelli. Is a trio OK in this tank?

Tankmates will be about 10 neons.

Can I also add a small group of cories?

Thanks...Bill

Welcome to the apisto forum, Bill. Your set-up with 10 Neons, 3 A. borellii and maybe up to 6 cory cats seems like an excellent community tank. Depending on the cory species, all of the members enjoy a cooler tank (74ºF/23ºC). However, if you plan to use the tank for serious breeding purposes, I doubt you'll be very successful. 10 Neons can wipe out a spawn of small fry, as can corys with eggs.

Plants?

Hi all,
Welcome, a suggestion would be some real plants, this is not just on aesthetic grounds, but because they have a very beneficial effect on water quality.

If you haven't seen them have a look at "ApistoBobs" Dwarf Cichlid pages, Bob is a member here, and the pages are full of good advice.

I have been maintaining a breeding colony of Corydoras hastatus, one of the smallest of the dwarf Corys in a permanent breeding set up for 3 years. I keep them at 82 to 84*F because they are at their most productive at these temperatures. Over 250 fish have been harvested for sale while keeping a base population of about 100 at all times.
This is warmer than most recommendations state but that is what works. I began this colony with only 10 wild caught specimens.

Corydoras habrosus are less productive but produce larger eggs/fry and do best if kept about 76*F.

Corydoras panda is a little larger species but still smaller than average for a Corydoras. They spawn best when kept in the mid-70's*F.

It is not anymore possible to generalize about Corydoras than it is about Apistogramma spp.
