Bolivian Rams - Compatability

I have a pair or young BR's in my 20 gal tank along with a small pleco. They've all three been there for two weeks and all seems well.
I'd like to add another fish or two without causing conflict problems or overstocking. I've had suggestions to add 5-7 neon tetras or a pair of dwarf gouramis.

I'd appreciate any input on these choices or any other recommendations.

Hi,

This depends if you want to breed. All tetras are great fry hunters and would overtime eat all ofthe fry. I would not add gouramis as they need different water perameters . Dithers used with apistos or rams are endlers guppies and mountain clouds . But if you are not into breeding, then 5-8 tetras should be fine. cheers jk

Hi all,
Endlers or WCM are fine, but WCM like cooler water ideally. I've also used Epiplatys annulatus (Rocket Killie). An easily obtainable reasonable dither for dwarf cichlids are Black Neon Tetras. I used to keep Black Neons with Apistogramma cacatuoides and they were OK, and they stay well up in the water column for Tetras.

As suggested the trouble with Neon tetras is that they are more bottom orientated and tend to pick off the fry.

If you can get Pencil fish they are very good, the best ones are the smaller species like N. espei, N. eques and N. marginatus. These aren't as hardy as Tetras, and need better water quality. Same would apply to Marbled Hatchets, they are good dithers but need special care.
