Ram eggs take two days to hatch (approx. 40hrs) and 5 more days before free swimmers. They will start swimming tomorrow! Your biggest challenge will be the next two days where the fry will need to eat and grow to a size big enough to consume newly hatched artemia.

Here are a few pictures to get you a perspective on their size. Each large increment is 100 μm. Average newly hatched Artemia is 425μm (San Francisco) to 455 μm (Salt Lake).

1st day after hatched

1st day free swimmer (after 5 days as wiggler). Notice a small amount of yolk sac still there.

2nd day free swimmer

3rd day free swimmer. Notice the red belly as an indication of consummed artemia.

Hi all,
No, they are too small for BBS until they've grown quite a bit, they need smaller food like rotifers or protozoa until they are big enough to deal with microworms/vinegar eels etc, and after that BBS.

Unless you have suitable cultures, the 2 possibilities are squeeze out a filter sponge and pipette the resulting suspension into the fry cloud, or use a large clump of Java moss that has been in a community tank etc and isn't too clean. I like the Java moss method, as the strands are very effective at snagging microworms etc, as well as supporting a lot of biofilm. I usually pipette some filter gunge into the moss every couple of days until the fry are big enough to take BBS or Grindal worms. If you have live food you can use a fry food fed at the same time and this usually gets them feeding on dry food as well, they need the live food to stimulate the feeding response.

cheers Darrel

They are very senstive to poor water quality so the bigger and more established the tank the better they will go.
Sqeezing a well established sponge filter into their tank releases lots of tiny bugs for them to eat if you havent got live culture
