Well I read some good comments on this product in this forum, but they all are at least 5yrs old comments. Any new suggestions for Bio-Spira? Should I get some for my tank? How many fish will I need to stock a 55 gal? I will have Apistos but not sure if I want to use them right away after adding the Bio spira. Any suggestions?
Seems Dr. Foster Smith is the only place where I can get it, any other vendors?
Thanks

I ordered some from Dr. S&F last year when I started, and it was a dud. if you have existing tanks, just seed from there.

Bio-Spira is a mix of bacteria that "controls" ammonia and nitrates in newly setup tanks, in a way that it cycles your tank overnight, so next day you can add your fish and don't have to wait 4 weeks or so until the tank cycles naturally.

I just used bio spria in a new tank and it still had to cycle on its own, now 1 mo. The bio sprira greatly depends on the freshness and there aren't any dates on this product. Also depends on how carefully it is shipped and at what temp it is keep and a person can't be sure of that. Best way use already cycled tank gravel.

i think some one posted a link that showed that the bacteria responsible for denitrification in acidic waters is not the one in bio spira, ie read their blurb and then just apply it their product

in theory it should work in neutral waters
