It also depends on what type of water you have or willing to provide.

Lucky you. Where do you live where there are so many apistos available? Here in DC, some of the larger LFS have closed recently (Scales, Tropical Fish World; SuperPetz, which is renovating).

If you are willing to make the trip out to Glenn Burnie (about 30-45 mins from DC) there is House of Tropicals... they usually have several species of Apistos available... most likely commercial, tank forms, but its something.

Yes, I've been to HOT. They had some really nice orange flash A. cacuatoides, but they were a bit pricey. I luckily just got a mated pair of "orange" flash (little more red than orange) A. cac. at the PVAS auction last Saturday at a great price. I got one opaline A. borelli at Pristine Aquariums in Alexandria VA (I should have gotten all 3 they hand); looking for some females. When I was up in NJ, I stopped by Shark Aquarium. They had wild borellis and agassazi. I picked up the only black-chin (sp. "Black-chin/Schwarzkinn" , but sold as juruensis) left. Occassionally Congresisonal Aquarium in Bethesda MD has some; I'll hopefully be able to go next week.
