Hi!

I'm in Penticton, B.C., and was recently bitten by the apisto bug. I keep show quality bettas, angels, guppies, and recently bought a pair of german blue rams and my discus come on Tuesday.

I am looking for:

A. trifasciata
A. bitaeniata
A. cacatuoides
A. borellii
A. diplotaenia
Pelvicachromis taeniatus

Juvenile groups or adult pairs.

Thanks.

(if this is the wrong forum, don't hesitate to move it, and if it is, in advance, I'm sorry)

i don't know what the market is for fish in penticton, but if it is like most of small town and rural canada, you can buy platys, mollies and the occasional cichlid in the lfs's. this means that you would likely have to buy mailorder. neil has lots of fish for sale, as do many others. thumb through the member list, esp the member sites. many members have websites with fish for sale.

oliver lucanus, in montreal ( www.belowwater.com ) sent me his stock lost yesterday and he has all of the species that you mentioned plus much more.

don't jump in all at once. you can only learn so much with each species in a certain length of time. you don't want to be wasting your money on fish that died on you... (jmo)

Unfortunately Oliver has a $200 minimum, and then shipping is $140 Airport to Airport. Hard to pay that when you're a student.

I am very used to the mail order side of things. I am a betta fancier, so shipping and paying the price of shipping is something I have come accustomed to. I found someone in Vancouver with a couple species who I will be dealing with in the future.

If you're involved in a local aquarium society why not suggest doing a bulk order from Oliver. We've done it twice. Or post something where the local hobyyists gather and organize it via that route. The first time we ordered, one of our LFS organized it for us without charging us. The second we did it alone as a society. I just bought 4 Apistogramma agassizis from Oliver for around $30 Cdn. Locally the would cost $23/piece and they're not wild forms like Oliver's.
