Apisto's in a 30gal

Hello,

I have a 30gal long tank that i was thinking of putting some apisto. cacuatoides in, along with some live plants. I have experience with african cichlids but none with SA.

basically, i was hoping to get a "cookie cutter" type suggestion from you. So, how many apisto's, what kind of other tank mates, what types of plants do best, how much drift wood.

I need to start from scratch, so i figured id ask the experts :biggrin:. As many suggestions as possible would be great!!

If you have enough caves, you could easily put in a trio (1M, 2F) of A. cacatuoides.

Wow, that depends. I have a trio that I keep in a 40 gallon breeder with some black neons and otocinclus. As far as plants go, it depends on your lighting. You can't go wrong with Java Fern, though.

Not the right place to ask, but why all the fuss about java fern and java moss?

Java Moss provides a huge surface area to single cell organisms and algae to grow for the fry to feed on.

Both Java moss and Java Fern do best in non- fertilized aquariums with lower light levels contrary to most aquatic plants.That makes them perfectly suitable to S.A. dwarf tanks where tds must be lower than acceptable for most plants.
