lovely fish....Are they feed something to get that color? Or do they hold that color over the long run? Normal viejita in the states do not get that red....:frown:

People here claim that feeding is as important (if not more important) than the color of the parents. If you want this much red on mac/viejita you need to start with good quality specimens & feed their fry heavily on color enhancing food. If you don't want to work with a lot of live food, I would suggest using something like Cyclop-eze.

are you just meaning astaxthin ?sp?
i think that is just one of the mlecules found in green things..
i think cyclops just happen to be good at eating green things
not too far behind would be daphnia(in my mind anyway?) i have also tried making my porridge green with spirulina recently in an attempt to get green into my worm cultures .... worms still look white

i have noticed my aggies that are grow outs in a cyclops fed tank with more direct sunlight.. not sure if that makes any differenece, have some of the best colour of any fish i have bred

I feed my white worms with tetra discus bits.. The worms are usually red inside the gut. However the worm of course stays white. so perhaps they do get the green algae inside them after all.. I should try with some cheap pleco food.
