Love the intense red. The pair that brought me into the wonder world of Apistogrammas.

Wonder has anyone bred them successfully? Will the F1s of the parent pair be as red as the parents?

Gorgeous fish, but the thing that really caught my eye was the tank - great scape. What a great home for your apistos!

Hi Ed,

Thanks for the kind comment. I am a planted hobbist. So I normally like to do a planted tank for my fishes. I believe my scape is a just a normal one. I believe there are some members here who has nicer scape.

The bad thing is this pair of apisto has deceased. Currently looking for another pair. This pair was specially brought in from HK by a friend.

Wonder if I am able to find another pair.

Does any member here in HK knows where I can get it again.

I really miss this pair :(

I'm a PT nut too, but while there may be some nicer scapes that doesn't mean yours isn't good! Certainly not 'normal'!
Good luck finding a replacement pair.

1. Yes, you could get it from Hong Kong from time to time.
Of course, the price is relatively high and the color will be
super-red for the real german fish.

2. I have bred it (the real one from Mr. Wilhelm). However,
the F1s are not comparable to the father fish in terms of
the degree of "red"...

Hi Blueblue,

it is a pleasure meeting you here.

Have seen pictures of some of your collection. Your collection is impressive

Think we chatted in AQ before.

Was wondering how much you paid for them?

Possible of pming me.

Might need to seek your advice/help to secure another pair.

This pair I gotten is definitely a Wilhelm strain. That why I was so sad when the pair died.

Hello, nice to see you here too and
thanks for your kind words. :)

The retail price of it in Hong Kong is about HK$680-880 a pair
of top quality ones
(1US$ = 7.8HK$).

In case you would like to shop for it in Hong Kong,
i'd see if some shops have it and let you know :)

Hi,

Thanks for the information. Will definitely seek your help when I need it.

That is around the price I pay last time for my previous pair.

Are they easy to breed? I didn't have a chance to breed them.

The female seems not interested to breed.

YES, quite easy to spawn. The only concern is, again,
the F1's performance is quite far from the parents'.

Hmm, usually in August and September, there will be shipments of both wildcaught and german tank bred. Moreover, in november and january,
there used to be some imports as the demand during christmas and chinese
new year is usually high.

That bad for the F1s of wilhelm viejita? The F1s for the german eliz is still not too bad in my opinion. Blueblue, have you tried the german hongsloi? How does the F1 fare?

Essentially, if you ask me to comment on the F1's performance, my observation is:

Eliza F1 > viejita F1 >>> hongsloi F1 (all from wilhelm)

Eliza's F1 is good and i manage to get some F1s which are
as good as their parents :)

viejita's F1 is not too bad but i just don't feel the same
as wilhelm's. hongsloi's F1s are always unsatisfactory...
there must be some tricks in enhancing the colour for
hongsloi that we do not know.

Hmmm...some colour enhancement treatement... Quite amazing to what they produce. Remembered somewhere in the forum about your pair of the Wild Eliz you have that went to Wilhelm for the colour enhancement.

Right; for eliza, i could also do it with the feeding of a variety of diets,
including some mini-organisms. However, hongsloi is really difficult to achieve
unless i try some chemicals (but that violates my rule of "natural" colour
enhancement)...

Is the colour enhancement the same as what the discus breeders are practising?

Hi,

Wonder you got any pictures of your viejita F1 pictures?

hmm, probably different. for me, i would enhance the colour of apistos by
offering a variety of diets, including cyclos and red shrimps (the one we also eat). :)
