I published a report from our second expedition in the Peruvian Amazon in 2009 on my site, while we were still there.

Now the fish have had some time in my tanks.

First one to breed was the one I call A. sp. "Napo 3", and these days the A. sp. “Napo 1†is breeding too:

And in one of my tanks:

Male:

Notice his strange caudal spot / bar 7 :

The female is very busy these days:

The next generation’s first day of freeswimming (As you see, they enjoyed their first BBS) :

I did not mean to suggest they were a part of the macmasteri complex. Just that the slightly chunky body and the red tail resembled some macmasteri I have seen.
They aren't as chunky and as you said, the female is quite different from a macmasteri.

I received a single female among a group of assorted Peruvian Apistogramma a couple of years ago that looked much like this one; a very pretty female and I wondered what the males might have looked like but none were present. I wonder if she wasn't one of the napo 1? One of those fish that will always remain a mystery to me.

Hi I didn’t know if you still have any of the Apistogramma Cuipeua?
Would be interested if so.
