Hi all,
after some initial failed attempts, I decided to give a try to this commonly sold but magnificent fish. I must say that the behavior of this fish has really surprised me, whilst in the community tank, the male behave incredibly aggressive towards other apistos (m/f), both a re really peaceful with the rest of my fish (discus/tetras/corys/ancistrus,…) something i can't say from my eremnopyge pair

that like to make a territory and annoy any passing by fish!!, as a pair he's been incredibly peaceful and protective with the female and the fry.
So after an unsuccessful spawn in the communitary tank, my macs were placed in the breeding tank, and with the right parameters (or the ones i guess they are for most apistos = 26-27ºC, destilled water = hardness 0 and a pH around 6), the female disappeared 2 days after inside the cave and covered the entrance.
I must say that, as a novice, I was quite surprised (and worried) when I did not see the female in almost 3 days, not even when feeding. Despite the facts pointed at it, I could not confirm the spawn till 5-7 days later when she decided to come out with the free swimming fry, At this moment I decided to remove the male form the tank.
The spawn has been quite small, I blame for that the age of the female, I think she's quite young based on size (compared to other females i've seen in pics and vids), but i can't discard any other reason!!. I guess I got around 15-20 babies max, which is the half of what I got with the A. eremnopyge first spawn.
Let's see how it evolves and hope I won't get many loses.
Here my first pic + vid of day one free swimming fry:
cheers,
Pol
