Apistogramma identification

Hi, I was sold this fish as a female A. Viejita, and as a first time Apisto owner I didn’t question it due to ignorance. 6 months down the line, and I am starting to think this is simply a sneaker male A. Macmasteri gold. It is in with a much larger male “Viejita”, which spends its entire time attacking it, which makes me think more and more it is a male. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Correct. That domestic strain is indeed often sold as A. viejita (to cash in more). So often in fact it's erroneously used as the picture for A. viejita on Wikipedia.

Thanks very much! Is it definitely a male then? If so I’ll pull it out before the bigger male kills it

As I don't like and thus don't keep the domestic forms I'm terrible at sexing them.

Yes and yes I think. The pictured fish has elongated dorsal and anal fin tips, which normally indicates male.
