apistogramma diamond

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum but not new to the hobby. I'm looking for information for apistogramma diamond's. Does anyone have any information? Scietific name? I tried googling it but nothing came up.

diamante is an old name fro ermenopyge , other common names fresa barbarosa

I was doing some looking and I am wondering what the difference is between the diamond and the Apistogramma bitaeniata Peru Blue. Other then colour, is there any difference. I noticed on one website that they are commonly confused for each other.

ermenopyge are different from bitaeniata mainly visually by the very dark markings they show , especially the dark smudges caudal peduncle(obvious when stressed)
bitaeniata have a more distinct lateral line
and bitaeniata never have as much red ont he face

Looking in CA2 A.eremnopyge also goes by strawberry apistogramma
does this mean that fish sold as Apistogramma strawberry is the same thing ?

It was originally sold as "A. sp. Fresa". Fresa is Spanish for strawberry. They are all names for the same species: A. eremnopyge.
