Apistogramma Agassizi Fry

Hi All!! This is my first post! I have a pair of Apistogramma Agassizi double red, & they have had a couple Very Large batches of fry- The first batch I took out and put in a 5gallon tank. I have about 50-60 growing well in there, but she just had another clutch and there's probably about 150 fry (is this normal?) I pulled the male and decided to allow her to try and care for them herself, at what point should I pull them out? I had to separate the couple because it was getting out of hand ! Any suggestions?

Are you even trying to breed them? If not, put in some tetras and other fry predators with the cichlids and let nature run its course or switch to keeping a single specimen. There is no mandate to grow out any fry or even to try and get them all through.
Especially not with domestic strains. There are literally millions of them, so no need for conservation breeding or multiplication to save a wild population.

Do you know what to do with the fry already growing out?

Also, 150 is not average but not unusual either.

Thank you for your response, my first batch I donated to my local fish store. I guess I just feel bad. Lol I’ve separated the male and female, at what age do I need to pull them from their mother? The last batch I took the whole cave with eggs out and It was way too much work for me, allowing her to do her thing this last time.
